Key performance indicators (KPI) are essentially the data points that
measure the company's performance over a specific period of time in a specific
area.
GE used data cockpits to allow remote viewing of a divisions performance. It
all boils down to data points that support decision making. Business
intelligence (BI), Decision Support Systems (DSS), all get to the data that
tells the performance story.
KPI can focus on specific areas of the business from sales to operations etc.
and should provide a snapshot of the businesses performance. This type of
information can also be further segregated in to executive Information,
management Information and so on.
Controllers, CFO's and other financial mangers use income statements and
standard financial reports to tell the profit, loss, return on investment, and
equity story. Other managers often rely on specific KPI in their respective areas of
expertise or responsibility.
We can help develop the KPI tools.
